Students participating in the protest were seen holding placards and raising slogans against the administration. One of the placards carried the message, “Doctor degree on sale,” reflecting anger over the alleged compromise of the examination process. Visuals released by news agency ANI also showed police personnel warning protesters of action if they failed to disperse from the demonstration site.
The National Testing Agency had earlier announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3. The agency stated that the examination would be held again on dates that will be announced separately.
In an official statement, the National Testing Agency said the decision was taken to maintain transparency and preserve public trust in the national examination system. The agency stated that the cancellation followed inputs examined in coordination with central agencies and investigative findings shared by law enforcement authorities.
“On the basis of inputs subsequently examined by NTA in coordination with central agencies, and the investigative findings shared by the law enforcement agencies, the National Testing Agency, with the approval of the Government of India, has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026, and to re-conduct the examination on dates that will be notified separately,” the statement said.
The agency further announced that revised examination dates and the schedule for re-issued admit cards would be communicated through official channels in the coming days.
The National Testing Agency also confirmed that a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations connected to the examination would be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The agency stated that it would extend full cooperation to the investigating authorities and provide all materials, records, and assistance required for the inquiry.
The cancellation of the examination has intensified concerns over the credibility and security of national-level entrance tests, with students facing uncertainty over admissions and academic schedules while investigative agencies examine the alleged paper leak network.
